David Jones OBE
Chief Executive, Coleg cambria
David took up his position as Chief Executive of Coleg Cambria on 1 August 2013, following nine years in the corresponding role at Deeside College. David led the formation of Cambria through three mergers which brought together Deeside, the Welsh College of Horticulture, Llysfasi and Yale. Coleg Cambria is one of the largest colleges in the UK and is a member of the Collab Group of leading UK colleges.
A fluent Welsh speaker, David's academic qualifications include a BSc in Electronic Engineering and an MBA from Warwick Business School. In the early part of his career, he worked in the electronics manufacturing industry, beginning his career in the education sector in 1987 as a Senior Lecturer in Electronics at Cardiff Metropolitan University.
David’s current external appointments include chairing the Deeside Enterprise Zone Board and the CBI North Wales Committee, membership of the Collab Group Board, the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) Wales Council, the City & Guilds Quality & Standards Committee and the City & Guilds Business Council. He is also a member of the Welsh Government European Advisory Group, the Farming Connect Advisory Board, the North Wales Economic Ambition Board, and is Chair of the City & Guilds Wales Advisory Board.
David is also a champion of fund raising with over £500,000 being raised at the college in recent years. David was appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant of Clwyd in March 2010, and was awarded an OBE in the 2015 New Year’s Honours List. He also won the 2017 TES UK FE Leader of the Year Award in February 2017, in recognition of his contribution to Further Education in North East Wales.
